Our son is here! August, Augie, Gus, Dimples, and Slugger (so apropos for a baby born during the World Series) are just some of that names that we’ve coined for him over these past three weeks. These weeks have been fun, reflective, life changing, joyous and tiresome. Even though August was born 3 weeks early he was quite huge (8.4lbs! Are you kidding me? Almost 21inches? Serious? I could hardly believe it). Even though he shares parts of his name with his dad (Matthew David), he got his dimples from my side of the family, which I count as a win considering our daughter looks identical to my husband.
I debated about whether or not I should post some of these photos because a couple of them are graphic, but I decided to share them. God’s creation is a miracle to marvel and some of these photos are proof of that. My husband was able to be both fully present with me as I delivered him and take a few photos in the process which we will always treasure.
So, meet August. Our son…

And we actually had the same doctor too (Dr Romberg cared for my pregnancy as well but she wasn't on call when i was in labor so i had a different Dr who delivered my baby on Sept 3 :)). Hey all! One great thing about having a baby has been that I have had to catch up on lots and lots of work from 2011. I don’t think I’ve logged more hours or worked harder and faster to finish projects than I have with this pregnancy. Maybe it’s nesting. But I think that mostly it’s that I know how much work newborns are and I want to be able to enjoy every minute of the gift that this little boy will be. I can’t believe how good it feels to catch up on months and months worth of work. There has not been another time in my career that I have ever been so caught up. But, through the hard work, my blog has suffered and is out of date. I’m not sure when I’ll get to update it with all the great shoots, weddings and promotional photos from 2011, but I will do my best to get them up here. For a short post, I wanted to share this image that I found yesterday as I was designing a wedding album…
Hope you all are well! We’ll try to keep this blog and my twitter updated on when our little boy, August, is born. The day is quickly approaching and we can hardly wait!

This beautiful family reminds me of my family growing up, except in reverse order. I am the youngest of three older brothers and photographing them was like going back in time to when I was a kid. It was so sweet to document their family photos, listen to them chat back and forth in German, and be reminded of what it is like having three brothers.

Hey friends. Some of you guys have emailed to ask where the heck some of my latest blog posts went, and I wanted to update you all with some good news. They are lost. But not for long. The good folks at Flosites are working hard to restore the lost posts.
